For this 22-year-old girl, it was just a matter of going to work on Friday morning. As usual, she reached the second basement of this building in Sarcelles, in Val d’Oise, France, by elevator, where she intended to take her car. Except that the elevator stopped, blocked between the two basements, as La Voix du Nord explains.

The student tried to press the alarm button, but nothing happened. He found himself trapped as a massive water leak entered the basement of the building. “Just before -2, the lift got stuck. The water immediately started rising,” she told the newspaper. Parisian, “I pressed the button but the lift will no longer go up. I pressed the alarm but got none. I tried to go up again but the lift didn’t work. The doors won’t open. The water was coming from below but also from above, from both sides, and it looked like a waterfall… I saw myself dying.

water up to the waist

The young woman, who was eventually rescued by firefighters, saw herself dying. When paramedics rescued her, she was in waist-deep water. “That person was very lucky,” said Paris firefighters from Val-Diois. According to professionals, there was 1.70 meters of water in the second basement then.

Today the girl student has not suffered any physical injury but she is in deep shock. Her sister calls for help, one of her brothers is furious: “We are in France in 2022, how can you go into your garage and accept the risk of drowning in an elevator in a new building? This is unacceptable,” he asks with a video on Instagram, which suggests the agony of these moments.

Since then 120 apartments in this 11-storey building have been deprived of water. The building is from winter 2021.
