The minister pointed out that ez and his daughter could once again request precautionary measures before the IACHR and that the government would be ready to answer questions.

IACHR’s response

The IACHR note addressed to the Bolivian Foreign Minister indicates that taking into account the information received by both sides, namely, the defense of ez and the Bolivian government, “the request for precautionary measures was duly closed.”

“The Commission considers it important that the State continues to guarantee reasonable conditions of detention in compliance with the minimum inter-American standards on the matter,” said a part of the note circulated on social media and read by the foreign minister.

The letter states that adequate physical and mental medical treatment should be provided inside or outside the penitentiary, building consensus among ez’s trusted doctors and guaranteeing the permanent accompaniment of their relatives.

For his part, ez’s defense described the IACHR’s decision as a “vague” response because it does not provide for, but does not deny, the remedy, according to the newspaper Pezina Siete.

ez has been in prison for more than half a year within a process launched against him at the behest of the Bolivian state, which accuses him of crimes such as conspiracy, terrorism and treason to cause the 2019 coup.
