Required Skills: Be in good physical shape, strong at communication, able to lead a team of volunteers… and love animals. Lastly, especially sheep. Sheep who eat seaweed from Orkney, local sheep to the Scottish archipelago (for their iodized meat and their wool) essential to the local economy.

Your mission if you have been hired: To conduct a program to strengthen the historic dry stone wall of the small Scottish island of North Ronaldsay.

Today battered by winds and gushing waves, the nearly bicentennial fence was built in the early 19th century to protect the 3000 or so sheep that inhabit this 2.7 km2 island (as opposed to the roughly fifty inhabitants of “humans”).
