US President Joe Biden arrived in Scotland on Monday, where he is scheduled to attend the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, which is seen as crucial to the future of humanity.
Joe Biden, who arrived from Rome where he attended the G20 meeting, landed aboard Air Force One in Edinburgh, before addressing other world leaders attending COP26 at 1:00 pm (local and GMT).
For the United States, China must “step up” its climate action
A senior US official on Monday criticized China’s “shocking” failure to “step up” its action against the climate crisis from a global perspective.
US President Joe Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the COP26 climate summit, which begins Monday in Glasgow, will mark progress for much of the world to “boost energy” during 2021.
“Now the question is, will everyone be lined up?” Sullivan continued to board the President’s plane Air Force One shortly before landing in Scotland.
“There are countries that are running away,” he told reporters, “one of them is China, which will not be represented by a leader at COP26 and which we believe has an obligation to pursue action because we are collectively Let’s move on.”
“We continue to press for it,” he said, describing the contrast between the Joe Biden-led US policy against climate change and China’s position considered “passive”.
