The state-run news agency said Kim was soon informed that Typhoon Maysak had destroyed more than 1,000 houses and submerged public buildings and farmland in the southern and northern Hamjong provinces last week.

Kim fired Kim Jong-il, chairman of the Workers’ Party’s South Hamgyong Provincial Committee, and appointed a successor, according to KCNA.
He also promised to send 12,000 members of the ruling Workers’ Party from Pyongyang to assist in recovery efforts.
The isolated nation has a record of heavy rainfall, floods and hurricanes. He was bored for the 10th typhoon of his season, which swept across the East China Sea over the weekend.
