LASK threatens tough fight in Scotland

Almost every strong performance at LASK has been disillusioned at the moment. After a 6–1 gala against Vojvodina it was only enough for 1:3 against Sturm and 1:1 against St. Johnstone in the first leg of the Conference League playoffs.

Chris Kane brought the Scots 1-0 against LASK at Vorthersestadion after 17 minutes in front of only 400 spectators, Mamoudou Karamoko managed to equalize after an hour via a penalty.

Two weak teams could be seen on the field, which could not leave their mark on the game at all. LASK trainer Dominic Thalhammer said that “the first three or four minutes would have been a good start”, then “our game lost the rhythm and confidence”.

Bitter for LASK: In addition to Yannis Lettard’s failure, Filip Wiesinger also had to be called up at short notice due to additive problems. “This situation arose overnight and then had to be decided on site. Two thirds of the defense had to be replaced. The idea was to play with three fast guys in the back.”

Finally, Andrade, Petar Filipovic and 21-year-old Jan Boller, who had only completed one professional minute for LASK so far, were used in a three-man chain.

While Linz was slightly annoyed by his appearance, guest coach Callum Davidson expects an open game before the second leg. “Playing 1-1 away from home is a great result for us. But of course in the second phase the cards will be shuffled. We will see a good fight and an exciting game by both the teams,” the St Johnstone coach said.
