More coronavirus vaccines found than ‘90% effective ‘
Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has announced that its experimental covid vaccine is more than 90 percent effective in preventing the disease.
The UK has now ordered 30 million doses of the vaccine and it is now hoped that it will be administered very soon.
Announcing the results of the three-phase clinical study, Pfizer Chairman and CEO Dr. Albert Borla said: “Today is a great day for science and humanity.
“The first set of results from our phase three Covid-19 vaccine trial provides preliminary evidence of our vaccine’s ability to prevent Covid-19.
“We are reaching this critical milestone in our vaccine development program as infection rates set new records when the world needs it most, with nearby hospitals with more capacity and struggles to reopen.
“With today’s news, we are close to an important step in providing much-needed progress to people around the world to help end this global health crisis.
“We look forward to sharing additional efficacy and safety data generated by thousands of participants over the coming weeks.
“I would like to thank the thousands of people who volunteered to participate in the clinical trial, our academic colleagues and investigators at the study sites, and our colleagues and collaborators around the world who are dedicating their time to this crucial endeavor.
“We couldn’t have come this far without the tremendous commitment of everyone involved.”
