New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs has said that India does not support the United Nations Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and will never abide by it.
Nuclear weapons can be frightening. The United States’ use of weapons against Japan during World War II is still unknown. Since then, no country has launched a nuclear attack on another country.
Nevertheless, many countries continue to test nuclear weapons. These countries argue that we will not use nuclear weapons for the first time, but if the enemy strikes a nuclear attack, we will have nuclear weapons in retaliation.
Nuclear weapons prohibition act
In this context, the 2017 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty was introduced in the United Nations as a step towards creating a world without nuclear weapons. Nuclear testing, manufacture, stockpiling and export were prohibited under this. The implementation of this agreement required the support of at least 50 countries.
Came into effect
Accordingly, Brazil became the first country to sign it. Since then, more than 50 countries, including Indonesia and Honduras, have signed the treaty. Subsequently, it was announced that the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty entered into force yesterday. However, none of the nine countries believed to support nuclear weapons. Similarly, 30 countries in the NATO alliance do not support it.
India is not bound
India has said that it does not support the United Nations Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and will never abide by it. A statement from the Union Foreign Ministry said, “India will continue to support non-partisan nuclear disarmament globally.
This is not the right approach
Also, India has not signed the deal. Therefore, India will not be bound by any of these laws in the future. This law does not impose any new rules internationally. India aims to build a world without nuclear weapons. We hope that this can be achieved through a step-by-step process. Therefore, India will always support any suggestion to reduce nuclear weapons. ‘
