Pence spokesman Devin O’Malley said the vice president “will continue to follow the advice of the White House medical unit and is not in quarantine.”
“In addition, Vice President Pence has tested negative every day and plans to be in the White House tomorrow,” said O’Malley in the statement.
An official said there is extreme sensitivity within the White House to the current state of affairs, with officials acknowledging the contradiction in telling states to reopen while the White House improves protocols to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The official said that Pence’s program will likely be lighter in the coming days, but that he is not making a full quarantine.
“She is a wonderful young woman, Katie, who has tested very well over a long period of time and then suddenly tested positive,” said Trump during a meeting with Republican members of Congress in the White House.
The news of Miller’s positive test made everyone nervous in the west wing of the White House, a White House source had previously told CNN.
The source said that Miller’s nature is to communicate in person, so as to establish many contacts in person during his daily work. The source added that West Wing staff are concerned that Trump’s senior consultant husband Stephen Miller also works in the building and has inevitably been exposed.
Government spokesman Alex Azar and American Secretary General Jerome Adams both tested the virus negatively. They currently have no plans to self-quarantine.
HHS spokesman Caitlan Oakley said that Azar “will follow the advice of his doctors at the White House Medical Unit.”
And a surgeon general spokesman said: “Surgeon general Adams was last tested for COVID-19 on Friday May 8, and the results were negative. He was not in contact with anyone who had tested positive and at the moment he has had no known exposure to the virus.
“Dr. Adams already attends practically most meetings and events and will continue to do so. If the White House Medical Unit recommends any change in Dr. Adams’ practices, he will of course comply.”
Trump’s mood
In conversations this weekend, Trump expressed concern that helpers contracting the coronavirus would undermine his message that the epidemic is waning and that states should start reopening, according to a person who spoke to him.
