Marine Le Pen, a third-time presidential candidate, may pass the first round for the second time in a row, according to the latest polls.
Indeed, according to the daily Opinionway-Kea Partners barometer, the 53-year-old politician would have passed the 20% mark of voting intent, bridging the gap with Emmanuel Macron, the arch-favourite in his succession. The outgoing president, however, continues to lead with 28%, but is tightening the noose with his 2017 rival. In the second round, the polls are still the winner with 56% of the votes in their favour.
The Pas-de-Calais MP is putting an end to the campaign quite simply because she has never been in such good shape since November. Still tied with Valerie Pecresse (LR) and Eric Zemour (Reconquête!) with 15% in February, Jean-Marie’s daughter continues to climb the polls after scoring three more points from last Friday.
How to interpret these nice figures? The RN candidate gains good media outlets and manages to reach the working classes, but is also sometimes tempted to join Erik Zemor, in order to win back his former supporters. In 2017 even 66% of his voters would be willing to trust him again.
Zemour in freefall
In a poll conducted by Ifop-Fiducial for Paris Match-LCI-Süd radio, Eric Zemour seems to be losing momentum.
The far-right candidate has again lost points in polls conducted in France, with 12% voting intentions. His latest controversial statements have led to him losing ground and widening the gap with his main rival, Marine Le Pen.
As for Valerie Pecrese, she goes up a bit in the polls, reaching 11%. An increase explained by François Fillon’s rally of voters in 2017, but he still has a long way to go in hopes of reaching the second round.
On the left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon points to 14% after scoring 0.5 points. Ecologist Yanik Jadot loses feathers and lives at 5%. For socialist Anne Hidalgo, her campaign turns into a nightmare with no more than 2%.
