Scotland: A Tour of Scotland

For Scotland with CN…. Part 2. (29. + 30.6.22)

After breakfast the journey continued. The city of Glasgow was our destination. It is the largest city in the country located on the west coast of Scotland. Particularly fascinating is the diverse architecture that Charles Rennie Mackintosh is famous for.
The Glasgow School of Art displays his distinctive style.
A tour of the city showed us many sights including the cathedral and the beautiful university.

The onward journey took us to Loch Lomond – a national park. The lake is considered one of the most beautiful in Scotland. It is set in a gorgeous landscape of Argylis with a charming mountain world, cut deep into the coast.
There are a lot of lakes in Scotland – just gorgeous.

We visited before proceeding in the afternoon

A whiskey distillery. It is the national drink of Scots.
then we stayed all night

At Hotel Alexandra in Kyle in the Lochlash area. (Fort William)

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we drove at 30.6. to Malaig Ferry Port

To take the ferry to the most beautiful Hebridian island “Isle of Skye”. Separated from the mainland by only one strait, the island is considered a beautiful paradise with its diverse panoramas, steep, bare Cuillin mountains and wooded coast. The Trotternish peninsula has medieval castles and prehistoric remains, they characterize the landscape.

Skye is also known for the tragic story of Scottish Prince Charming Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora Macdonald.
After driving through the beautiful countryside, before arriving at the ferry port, we made a stopover

Then we passed through beautiful countryside.
First big stop

Portree, a lovely little town. we also toured

small port.
Then continue with several stops.

One was where we could see the fairy tale Illian Donnan Castle.

It is the most photographed castle in Scotland and is situated in the middle of the lake.

After crossing back with the ferry we again reached the mainland and proceeded to Ullapool area for the next night’s stay.
