The Scotland national football team wants to delight the whole country in the long-awaited European Championship return.
“Everyone is looking forward to the game, we as a nation look forward to it,” captain Andy Robertson said on Sunday. “Hopefully we can put a smile on people’s faces.” Scots and Czech Republic will play their second Group D match in Glasgow on Monday after England beat Croatia 1-0. Scotland was last in the 1998 World Cup, the previous European Championship participation being two years long.

“When you qualify for the first time in 23 years, you probably feel a little less pressure,” coach Steve Clarke said. Still, it is important to have control over emotions in order to make his choice. The 57-year-old also formulated the message he wanted to convey to his players for the game. “Go to the game and enjoy it,” said the coach. “I would ask you to enjoy the moment.”

Liverpool professional Robertson was apparently looking forward to the evening before the game. “A lot of kids, unfortunately teenagers and even 20-year-olds, haven’t seen Scotland in a big tournament,” said the team’s captain. “I hope we inspire the country and make people happy.”
