A second statue for Sir Alex Ferguson. Standing in front of Old Trafford in Manchester, it is near Pitodry Stadium in Aberdeen, Scotland, that we will soon be able to see a bronze statue of the great coach in his likeness. It was the club who announced this to thank him for his “extreme contribution” to the club’s glory.
“His arrival at Pitodry marked the beginning of the most successful period in the club’s history and put Aberdeen on the map of European football,” said club president Dave Cormack.
Alex Ferguson (79) coached Aberdeen between 1978 and 1986, with whom he won three Scottish League titles, four National Cups and all but two European titles. A European Cup Winners’ Cup by defeating Real Madrid in 1983 and the Supercup against Hamburg in the same year.
The task was entrusted to sculptor Andy Edwards, who would take as a model a photograph of Ferguson in 1980, when the club won the league title for the first time in 15 years. Must be installed before the end of the working year.
