As the competition draws to a close, there is a strong sense of optimism in Scotland, with the former manager backing his boys to keep going.
Speaking about his Euro chances, he said: “We don’t care how we qualified – here we are. I think we have a team that can honestly take us the whole distance.
“I’m not stupid or patriotic – I’m really optimistic that we can get away from here and that we have all the potential of this team.”
He continued: “When I look at other countries that have won it – Portugal won it without winning a group match, Greece won it. In 1992, Denmark won it. They came out of nowhere.
“It’s possible for someone else, not a great top-level team, to win it, and I think Scotland have a chance this time around.”
