In Abate’s rewriting, Gogol’s satirical gaze is expressed in an even more parody vision, where caricatured characters, with a distinctive Northern accent, circle around this false inspector with colorful dialect in Roman dialect. The story should be dramatic, but it definitely turns out to be comical.
