According to official figures, the number of victims of the storm has increased from 15 to 26.

The Louisiana Health Department said nine of the 11 new victims died of power outages caused by the storm, while the other two died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

In Louisiana, where the heat is rampant, hundreds of thousands of people were unable to use air conditioners due to a lack of electricity. Many use power generators which, without proper ventilation, pose a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

As a Category IV hurricane, Ida reached the Louisiana coast southwest of New Orleans on August 29, exiting the Gulf of Mexico.

The storm wreaked havoc. After that, about 300,000 homes in Louisiana still have no electricity.
