The United States Reveals Its Nuclear Weapons Number - News from Fakti.bg - World

The State Department has revealed the number of nuclear weapons in the US arsenal. According to the US State Department, this will aid global efforts to control the spread of these weapons, the Associated Press reported.

The decision represents a change in the policies of the government of former US President Donald Trump. The BTA reported that the government of current President Joe Biden is reviewing a policy on nuclear weapons, which is expected to be completed early next year.

The State Department said the number of US weapons, including active and long-term weapons, stood at 3,750 as of September 2020. By comparison, in 2019 they were 3,805, and in 2018 they were 3,785. The US nuclear arsenal had more than 10,000 weapons, with the largest number in 1967 being 31,255.

The United States last disclosed its nuclear weapons numbers in March 2018, when it said they were 3,822 as of September 2017. This was at the start of Trump’s presidency, whose government later kept current information on the number of nuclear weapons a secret.
