The works of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2020 are the laugh we all need right now

(CNN) – We could all use a laugh right now. Luckily, the natural world answered our prayers for a little respite from daily fate and darkness.

From a photo of an Alaskan brown bear caught “dancing” with his paws in mid-air, to a northern pygmy owl that gives the viewer a wobbly wink, the photos, which have been marked as some of the best voices in the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2020, will surely increase the spirit of anyone who needs a giggle.

The competition, which is in its sixth year, is open until June 30, but the founders have decided to share some of the best images so far.

There’s also a serious side to the awards, with professional co-founders and photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam eager to promote wildlife and natural habitat conservation.

“The photos coming up this year are particularly touching and we are excited to have so many strong contenders already,” Sullam said in a statement.

“The world is experiencing an unprecedented upheaval, but the only brighter light that comes out of the darkness is the positive impact on the climate that our self-imposed block has created.

“Unfortunately, many conservation efforts are running out of funds and our competition exists to continue raising awareness, smiling and we hope to support wild animals around the world.”
