Ukraine on Monday blocked several major Russian media websites accused of spreading Kremlin propaganda.
A decree published by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday ordered the blocking of 12 Russian media sites in Ukrainian territory.
Among them are the websites of the newspapers “Vedomosti”, where control is now in the hands of the friendly editors of the Kremlin, “Moskovsky Komsomolek” and “Zvezda”.
The decree provides for the freezing of media accounts in local banks.
These are the current sanctions imposed by Ukraine on Russian companies and entrepreneurs.
In June, Kiev imposed sanctions on dozens of individuals and businessmen associated with the Russian defense sector.
In February, Ukraine blocked three pro-Russian television channels, as explained by the presidential office, in an effort to curb Kremlin propaganda.
In February 2014, Russia annexed the Ukrainian Crimean peninsula. Since April 2014, troops of Moscow-backed and armed militants, saboteurs and Russian regular units have occupied large areas in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions of eastern Ukraine.
