Violation of fundamental rights against Rishad! Another judge who backs down

Another judge of the High Court has withdrawn from considering the case filed by MP Rishad Bathiuddin and his brother Riyaz Bediuddin.

Mahindra Samaywardene today announced that it would withdraw from considering the petitions on individual grounds.

Accordingly, he is the fourth judge to withdraw from the Fundamental Rights petitions filed by MP Rishad Bathiuddin and his brother Riyaz Bediuddin.

On 28 May, Justice Janak de Silva announced that he was acting as chairman of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Sunday’s attacks, citing the fact that the two petitioners had heard witnesses in the commission, and Will withdraw the petitions are being considered on this basis.

Following this, Yashantha Godagoda, the President’s counsel, announced on June 4 that he would withdraw from considering the petition citing personal reasons.

Subsequently, on June 4, Justice AHMA Nawaz announced that he would withdraw from the case on personal grounds.

Former minister and Wani district MP Rishad Bathiuddin and his brother Riyaz Bediuddin have filed a fundamental rights petition in the high court seeking Rs 500 crore compensation for their arrest under the Anti-Terrorism Act and CID’s detention.
