The news was announced by party leader Hristian Mikowski, who posted on his profile two photos of the meeting with the new majority. Facebook.

In this case, Besa – a party of the ethnic Albanian bloc (which also includes Albanians and the Alternative Coalition) – is the reason for the formation of the new majority.

It was a coalition partner of the Social Democrats of Zev and the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), the largest party in Albania. Zev hoped not to lose to Besa, but to consolidate his majority by attracting alternatives. However, tensions between BESA and DUI are still rising. Before the formation of the present majority.

However, its separation from the ruling majority means that the government of the Social Democrats and the DUI will be overthrown in the next parliamentary vote.

This makes it impossible to maintain the current majority, with a prime minister other than just Zev, and for the next prime minister of North Macedonia to be called Christian Mikoski. However, his majority, like that of Zev so far, will be fragile – 61 out of 120 delegates.

“A new future is coming, a new time and a new hope. Strong challenges await us, we are aware and grateful for the support and we will succeed,” Mikoski wrote. “(Northern) Macedonia will succeed! We have a new parliamentary majority.”

For VMRO-DPMNE, it will be a return to power handed to the Social Democrats after waves of protests and the failure to form a caretaker government and a cabinet following the 2016 vote. Gruevski – linked by critics to rampant corruption, state imprisonment and international secession – was sentenced to prison but fled to Hungary and given political asylum.

The future government will also be the first in power since 2008 without a DUI. The DUI was a coalition partner of both the VMRO-DPMNE and the previous two SDSM cabinets. In the final 100 days of Zev’s regular cabinet it was expected (according to inter-party agreements) – if he had completed his term – that the party would nominate an Albanian prime minister to rule in Zev’s place.
