World Cup qualified. Europe »News» World Cup qualification: Austria starts in Scotland

Erstes Spiel für die ÖFB-Auswahl auswärts auf der Insel gegen Schottland

The schedule is set for the group stage of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Austria starts in Scotland on 25 March, followed by a home game against the Faroe Islands three days later.

The Austrian national team will face Scotland away from home on 25 March 2021 at the start of the World Cup qualification. Three days later the underdog awaits the first home game against the Faroe Islands, three days after that, even at home with Denmark, the strongest opponent in Group F kicked out the paper at 8:45 am.

In September, three more games follow within a week. Captain Julian Baumgartlinger & Co. will take place in Moldova on 1 September and in Israel on 4 September, before the home game against the Scots is on the schedule three days later.

The away second leg will run against the Faroe Islands and Denmark on 9 and 12 October respectively. Finally, team owner Franco Foda has two more games before his team, rivals Israel (12 November) and Moldova (15 November).

Qatar plays in European World Cup qualifier

It is strange that the host Qatar will participate in the European qualification for the 2022 World Cup. It is the result of negotiations between the European Football Union (UEFA) and the Asian Continental Union (AFC). The Emirates national team must practice competition for finals in their home country, scheduled between 21 November and 18 December 2022. Points against Qatar are not counted towards the table. This was confirmed by UEFA on Tuesday evening.

Group A opponents, European champions Portugal, Serbia, Ireland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan need not leave their own continent for the away games, as the Asian champions will play all home games in Europe. The games will all take place in 2021, with Qatar as the hosts are strongly qualified for the finals.
