The head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration provided information on the current situation on the Polish-Belarusian border. He also emphasized that, in addition to the crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border, the fate of political prisoners in Belarus is also important, requiring increased participation of the entire European Union in efforts to free them.

Commissioner Ylva Johansson shared Poland’s position that Belarus’ actions should be met with a firm response from the European Union, and that the Lukashenka regime is responsible for the migration crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border. He also emphasized that it was possible for the European Commission to transfer 200 million euros to secure borders to Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.

Commissioner shares Polish diagnosis

During the meeting, Minister Mariusz Kaminski provided information on recent events on the Polish-Belarusian border and the measures taken to ensure the security of the EU’s external border. The head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration insisted that Poland, led by Belarusian services, prevent illegal border crossings by migrants. The commissioner shared the Polish diagnosis of the situation and agreed on decisive action to implement sanctions against the Lukashenka regime, as well as joint diplomatic action in the country of origin of the migrants.

The head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration also noted that since the start of the crisis, Poland has been holding a constant and comprehensive dialogue with various EU partners, as well as with those from outside the community, such as Ukraine. In all these negotiations, support for the actions of the Polish government was declared and understanding for the difficult and unprecedented situation at the border was expressed.
