In just one week, voters across the UK will vote for a series of local elections, which were scheduled to take place last year but were delayed due to the Kovid-19 epidemic.
Around 48 million people have registered to vote, with local council contests in England and parliamentary elections in Scotland and Wales.
London, Manchester, Liverpool and Tees Valley are among the many cities and regions that will choose a new mayor. Hartlepul also has a by-election, where voters will elect a new MP for Westminster.
People must register to vote before choosing their preferred candidate in any of these elections. The deadline to register for the May 6 election has now expired, although people can still register for future elections if they wish (see below).

What if I am not registered to vote?
The registration deadline to vote in the May 6 election has now expired.
But those who want to vote in the next election can do so:
- They are british citizens
- An Irish or European citizen living in the UK
- A Commonwealth citizen who has permission to enter or live in the UK, or who does not require permission
- Citizen of another country living in Scotland or Wales who is allowed to enter or live in the UK, or who does not require permission
