Los Angeles (AP) – A remake of the Shakespeare classic “Macbeth” with top-class Oscar winners should hit theaters this year.
“The Tragedy of Macbeth” with Frances MacDormand (63, “Nomadland”) and Daniel Washington (66, “Training Day”) will be released by Studio A24 and Apple Origin Films, Apple TV announced streaming service on Wednesday Of.
The director is Joel Koen (“Fargo”, “No Country for Old Men”), who has worked on several occasions with his wife MacDormand. In late April, the actress won the Oscar for Best Leading Actress for “Nomadland”. Joel’s brother Ethan is usually involved in coine projects as a producer, director or screenwriter. “Macbeth” is a solo project by Joel, who also scripts and produces.
William Shakespeare’s tragedy from 1606 revolves around a power-hungry, unscrupulous prince (Washington), who seeks to become King of Scotland with the help of his wife, Lady Macbeth (MacDormand). Following the screen adoption by Orton Wells (1948) or Roman Polanski (1971), Australian Justin Kurzel brought Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard as the murderous couple in front of the camera in 2015.
