After failed DFB change: Sosa makes debut for Croatia

Stuttgart (DPA/LSW) – VfB Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa has made his debut for the Croatian national team after his unsuccessful union change in the German Football Association. The full-back played 90 minutes in the 0-0 Croatian players in World Cup qualification in Russia on Wednesday evening. The 23-year-old is also in the category of vice world champion for games in Slovakia on Saturday and next Tuesday against Slovenia.

Sosa was naturalized in Germany in the spring and has since decided to play for the DFB team. However, it turned out that such a dressing change is not so easily possible. As per applicable rules, a player may be sanctioned only if the player is under 21 years of age at the time of his last appearance for his country of origin in an international match of any category. Sosa was 22 years old when he last played for Croatia’s U21s in the European Championship qualification against Scotland in late November 2020. Hence DFB waived the concerned application.
