Banksy shares the new works in support of Black Lives Matter

Banksy's latest artwork is dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement.
The protests of Black Lives Matter have spread around the world in the past two weeks after the death of George Floyd, a black man killed in police custody in the United States on May 25. Banksy’s latest work, unveiled in a Instagram post, describes how Floyd’s death rocked the United States.

The piece is made up of a black figure framed with a candle and flowers surrounding it. An American flag hanging above the head has been lit by the fire under the candle.

Together with the work of art, Banksy clarified his ideas about systemic racism.

“At first I thought I should be silent and listen to black people about this problem. But why should I do it? It’s not their problem. It’s mine,” Banksy wrote in his Instagram post, which raised over 2 million I like it.

“Black people are failing in the system. The white system. Like a broken pipe that floods the apartment of people living downstairs. The defective system is making their lives a misery, but it’s not their job to fix it. Can ‘nobody will leave them in the upstairs apartment.

“This is a white problem. And if the whites don’t solve it, someone will have to come upstairs and kick the door,” added the artist.

A Black Lives Matter protest took over the streets of Bristol, England on Sunday near the place where Banksy is supposed to have been born. Local police estimated 10,000 demonstrators attended.

During the protest, protesters shot down a statue of 17th-century slave trader Edward Colston. Protesters applauded and celebrated at the sight of the demolished bronze statue, but police say an investigation has been launched to identify the people involved.
