Ben Shepherd has congratulated his Good Morning Britain co-presenter Kate Gareway as she faces a difficult year in her personal life.
The 45-year-old TV presenter said he appreciates Kate’s “eternal optimism” as she faces the difficulties of her husband Derek Draper’s hospitalization from the effects of Covid-19.
The former political lobbyist has been in hospital since March, when he was put in an inspirational coma after being diagnosed with coronavirus.
, Kate, 53, then faced a heartbreaking situation, along with her children Darcy and Billy.
Ben said she found her strength significant because she shared her concern that she was doing enough to support her friend.
He said: “There is no day when I don’t think about it and what is happening that day and whether I can do something to help it today.
“There isn’t even a moment when I work with him where appreciation weakens.”
Ben added: “Kate is so smart and professional and we have fun so you forget the endless journey that she is going through at the moment.
“We all want to know what the outcome will be and that’s the hard thing, not knowing.
“It’s so difficult and its eternal optimism and positivity is something we can all see. It’s something I also use to inspire.”

Ben hopes that next year will be a different story for everyone affected by the cat and coronavirus epidemic.
He added: “In 2021, I will undoubtedly be more optimistic and positive, because of my friendship with him and I appreciate it.”
Kate, for her part, said Ben is a platform of strength for her during challenging years.

She said: “He’s been at the end of the phone and trying to do everything possible to help.
“Being serious for a minute, that’s a big pressure on him.
“Working with someone you care about and you’re concerned about, as well as trying to work with, is a huge thing and I’m grateful he’s been there and I know it’s for him How difficult it was. “
