Clima, Somaruga Al July Ministerial

BERN – Federal Councilor Simonetta Somaruga takes part in the July Ministerial Meeting in London today.

A meeting of more than 40 ministers of the environment serves to prepare the UN climate conference COP26, which will be held from October 31 to November 12 in Glasgow, Scotland, the General Secretariat of the Federal Department for the Environment announced today. Energy and Communications (DETEC).

The note said that COP26 president Alok Sharma has invited Somaruga and Rwanda’s environment minister, Jean d’Arc Mujawamaria, to attend at the ministerial level. They should ensure that all countries prepare their climate targets for the same year.

Switzerland remains committed to strict and unified rules that apply to all countries, the statement adds. The Federal Councilor also informed his counterparts about Switzerland’s bilateral climate agreements with Peru, Ghana and Senegal. Through these agreements, Switzerland draws attention to the fact that such rules are possible in the interest of both countries.

Somaruga also held bilateral talks with Alok Sharma as well as Norway’s Climate and Environment Minister Svenung Rotevatan.
