LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria (46) will join the board of the new Academy Museum in Los Angeles. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures announced this.

Ted Sarandos, chairman of the museum’s board of directors and Netflix program director, said they are “excited” to have the actress, producer and director on board. The Latina star is a strong advocate for minorities and immigrants.

The museum, which gives Oscar awards every year, is planned to be inaugurated by the end of September. Parts of the Oscar Academy’s collection, including films, scripts, props and costumes, are on view on approximately 30,000 square meters. Stars such as Steven Spielberg, Barbra Streisand and George Lucas, but also film studios, foundations and companies donated millions to the facility. The board of directors includes filmmakers such as Laura Dern, Tom Hanks and Ryan Murphy.
