On five dates in June and July, Ada Hinterhof Kino shows open-air film screenings in the backyard of the former Labor Academy on the Bockenheim campus. Thematically, the films shown are about work: “The films revolve around criticism of working conditions, poor pay, gender characteristics, power structures, and last but not least, the nature of work through Destruction,” say the organizers. The program is a collaboration of Kinothek Esta Nielsen e. Ada Canteen with V.V.

The chain of events began on 10 June with the Tim Ellrich film “My Vietnam”. This was followed by the release of “Rules on the Tape, At High Speed” from the year 2020 to June 17. This continues on July 8 with Helga Riedmeister’s film “Von du Schickel”, which was released in 1979 and which deals with violent relations in the family. Filmmaker Helke Sander described the film as, “‘Cause of Luck’ shows the pitiful results of attempts to take everyone’s needs seriously, despite desperate efforts.”

The film series concluded with the 1999 science fiction film “Conserving Ada” on 15 July. It is about the Duchess and British mathematician Augusta Ada Byron King, who is now considered the author of the first computer program. The main role is played by Scottish actress and Oscar winner Tilda Swinton.

Ada Hinterhof Kino is part of the “SommerWanderKino Hessen 2021” event series and is hosted by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art’s program “Ins Freie!” is funded by.
