Participants in the January 6 riots in Washington “intended to capture and kill elected officials.” This is stated in a petition by federal prosecutors in The New York Times report.
The case is against Arizona resident Jacob Anthony Chainsley, also known as Jake Angeli, who attended the protests in a Viking costume. “The strong evidence, which Chensley himself stated and did in the Capitol, suggests that the rebels intended to seize and kill elected officials,” the document says.
However, according to Acting Federal Attorney Michael Sherwin, there is currently no direct evidence that participants in the Capitol’s storm planned to seize or kill members of Congress.
Chainsley became famous for his clothes, which he wore during the riots in the Capitol. He donned a fur hat with horns and painted his face in the colors of the American flag. After the rally, Chancelley was charged with felony, forcible entry and illegal presence on campus in the area of the Capitol.
On 6 January, Republican protesters stormed the Capitol Building and surrounded the Senate Hall. The Senate and the House of Representatives interrupted a meeting which was planned to approve the results of previous elections. During the protests, police detained around 70 rioters, killing five people.
