Swiss Environment Minister Simonetta Somaruga holds talks with her counterparts to better coordinate climate goals in a timely manner.

in short needed

  • Climate goals should be better coordinated over time.
  • Simonetta Somaruga talked about this with her colleagues.
  • Proposals for solutions are to be presented before the United Nations Climate Conference.

Environment Minister Simonetta Somaruga discussed via video conference with forty colleagues how climate goals can be better coordinated with each other. Somaruga was appointed by the President of the United Nations Climate Change Conference to seek a solution.

The proposals are to be presented at a pre-conference of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, in November. His department made the announcement on Tuesday.

Pre-conference takes place in Milan

Under the Paris Agreement, each country can now decide for itself when it wants to formulate its climate goals. There are still no implementation rules for the respective duration of the climate targets. The communication goes on to say: Without such regulations, countries would not be able to communicate their next climate goals in 2025 in a uniform way.

The pre-conference will take place in Milan from 30 September to 2 October, with Somaruga presenting proposals together with Rwanda’s Environment Minister Jean d’Arc Mujawamaria. They share the mandate.
