Steven Spielberg replaces Stephen King’s “The Tallisman” in the Netflix series

Steven Spielberg und Stephen King

Steven Spielberg is working on a series adaptation of the fantasy novel “The Tallisman” by Stephen Kings and Peter Straub. Matt and Ross Duffer, along with the producers of “Stranger Things”, want the director to film the story for Netflix.

The novel revolves around 12-year-old Jack, who goes in search of a powerful talisman to save his ailing mother. Jack moves between two worlds: the real USA and a parallel world in which there is an equivalent for every person.

Soon after the book was published in 1984, it became a bestseller and was at number one on the New York Times bestseller list for twelve weeks. In total, more than 880,000 copies were sold in the year it was published. In 2001 Steven King and Peter Strub published the sequel to the story with “The Black House”.

Spielberg had been planning implementation since 1982

Steven Spielberg quickly recognized the potential of the story. In 1982, even before the book was published, he secured the rights to “The Tallisman”. He originally planned to film the story. Recently, director Mike Barker (“Der Report Der Magd”) was in talks for the project in 2019. The fact that it is now being implemented as a series makes perfect sense: the German translation of the book is 960 pages long and thus provides sufficient material for the series description.

It is not yet known when “The Tallysman” will appear as a series. However, since the project is still at an early stage, publication is not expected to begin until 2022 at the earliest.
