Akhil Garland, the owner of the village, said there are now about 25 people living there. “Small houses, sharing facilities, cooking and bathroom facilities, this kind of thing,” said Akhil Garland, the owner of the village. Garland said it has begun a subdivision process so people can own their own structures. Through that process he is working closely with town officials. “Safety is not an issue, but now, all of a sudden, I’ve been told that there is an imminent threat to safety.” Town officials last Thursday inspected 15 buildings in the village, 14 of which are being rented out. Peterborough Fire Chief Ed Wacker said he found several code violations that are causing major concerns. “For electric, for example, the cabins run on extension cords, they provide power from the building to the building,” he said. “There are gas appliances, gas lines and propane tanks installed, none of which are approved by the fire department.” The city is working with Garland this week to find out what tenants should leave and who can stay safely and temporarily, Vaker said. “This will give those residents time to find alternative accommodation before the break and close orders placed on those properties,” he said. Those who spoke in News with were anxious, anxious and upset. “Wednesday’s deadline is not just the time but the time of year and what’s going on, some families have kids and they’re trying to go to school, the stress that everyone feels,” said tenant Mark Wilson. “We’re not to blame here, but we’re only being punished by the city for anything that has gone wrong along the way,” said tenant Griffin Kelly.

“For electric, for example, the cabins run from the extension cord, they are bound by a daisy-chain that supplies power to people from building to building,” Vaker said. “Gas appliances, gas lines and propane tanks have been installed there, none of which were allowed by the fire department.”
The city is working with Garland to find out what tenants need to leave this week and who can stay safely, Waker said.
“It will only give those residents time to find alternative accommodation before the break and leave the order placed on those properties,” Wakere said.
The tenants who spoke to News 9 were worried and upset.
Tenant Mark Wilson said, “Not only is Wednesday the deadline but the time of year and what’s going on, some families have kids and they’re trying to go to school, it’s the stress that everyone feels,” tenant Mark Wilson said.
“We’re not to blame here, but we’re only being punished by the city for anything that has gone wrong along the way,” said tenant Griffin Kelly.
