SOGGY Britain will see more rain over the weekend – but forecasters have promised warmer weather is on the way.

Meteorologists have warned that there is a possibility of strong thunderstorms in the country till Sunday.

However, no weather alert has been issued for the weekend as of now.

Parts of Britain are getting more rain in the first 17 days of August after more than a month of torrential rains.

The Met Office said parts of central and eastern England would receive heavy rain from the west to east of the country on Sunday with a risk of flooding.

But temperatures in the northern regions will climb to around 20C, and London could see 25C on Friday and Sunday.

Meteorological Department meteorologist Simon Partridge said parts of Northern Ireland and south-west England could receive up to 40 mm of rain for 24 hours on Saturday and the northern Pennines on Sunday.

This comes after London and Northern Ireland experienced a particularly wet August.

For Friday, daylight and the first hours of sun will be the first to be appreciated, “but there will be a thick cloud soon in the morning”, warned Meteogroup UK.

He said: “Friday is shaping up to be quite dry and we may see 24 or 25C which will probably be around the London area.

“It can be quite volatile with rain on Saturday, with Friday being the driest day.

“East and southeast will be quite dry on Saturday, while it will be very wet in the west.

“It may be wet in places on Sunday and we may need a rain warning.

“It looks like the Midlands and parts of the East may receive a lot of rain on Sunday – but there is also a lot of uncertainty.”

Hull, Norwich, Newcastle and Aberdeen are among the eastern regions hit by heavy rain on Sunday, with wind coming from the North Sea.

But the good news is that after a few more days of rain, warmer weather will hit our shores, said meteorologist Alex Deakin of the Met Office.

He said: “There are signs of dry, sunny weather coming next week. “
