Qatar 2022 ™ began yesterday evening with some surprises after qualifying for the FIFA World Cup, with things actually continuing in Europe today – but not just there. Germany started as hosts for Iceland with a clear 3–0 win, while current FIFA men’s world player Robert Lewandowski saved a point in Poland’s first game against Hungary in the final minute with his 3: 3 goal . Switzerland won after the start of the lightning – three goals after 12 minutes – in Bulgaria and Austria, despite advancing twice to Scotland, unable to advance from the draw. Heavyweight England and Italy started with a win, while Spain surprisingly only played a draw.

But it started in Asia, where qualification had been going on for a long time and Tajikistan defeated Mongolia. Twelve nations, including former World Cup participants Canada, El Salvador, Haiti, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago, departed for Qatar in the Concacaf region.

Tajikistan 3-0 Mongolia

• Already in the third minute, Manucher Dzhilov led the ball after a good game on the left wing in the lower right corner and cheered the home fans strongly. • Anastasios Bakassetas scored a crucial point for Greece with a converted penalty in his game against Spain. Alvaro Morata earlier conceded a pass from Coke’s chest and gave Spain a lead with a superb volley in the 33rd minute. Greece equalized after Giorgos Masouras was defeated by Inigo Martinez shortly after the start of the second half.

Bulgaria – Switzerland 1: 3

• Switzerland opened Group C with a sovereign victory against Bulgaria in Sofia. After the hits of Brielle Ambolo, Haris Seferovich and Steven Zuber, they were Confederate Already with a three-goal lead after 15 minutes – the fastest three-goal lead in national team history. But when the hosts felt they had all three points on the credit side, substitute Meinhard Olsen scored his first international goal for the guests with a slightly deflected shot seven minutes before the end.

Scotland – Austria 2-2

• Scotland won 2–2 against Austria at Hampden Park after trailing twice. Two-time goalkeeper Sasa Kalajadik looked like the hero of the game when he twice put the visitors in the lead. But the Scots bounced back each time, first through Grant Hanley, who advanced after a free kick from Stephen O’Donnell and again when John McGinn scored a point with a superb overhead kick.

Andorra – Albania 0: 1

• Just before the break Ermir Lenzani’s superb half volley gave Albania three points in Andorra. The Albanians had plenty of possession, but goalkeeper Josep Gomes prevented a major defeat several times.

Hungary 3-3 Poland

• Budapest was the scene of the most exciting encounter of the day. Hungary scored in the first attack of the game: Attila Fiola played a superb pass to Freiburg’s Roland Salai, who pushed the ball forward from Wojciech Szczny. Veteran striker Adam Szalai scored the second goal for Hungary at the start of the second half, but Paulo Susa’s Poles bounced back on two substitutions. Krzysztof Piatek scored with his first touch when he scored a cross from Kamil Jozwiak. A few seconds later Jojwiak scored one of his goals. Willy Orbán scored his fifth international goal for Hungary with his knee and restored the hosts’ lead. However, the FIFA world player had the final word: Robert Lewandowski scored the first crucial chance of the evening with a powerful left-handed shot, so that the teams finally shared the points.

Romania – Northern Macedonia 3: 2

• Ianis Hagi was the hero who gave Romania a perfect start to qualify for Qatar 2022 with a dramatic win over European Championship participant North Macedonia. Mirel Radoi’s side was the better side for most of the game, when Vlad Chiriches kicked a Florin Tansay cross into the bottom corner. Substitute Valentin Mihaila had already sealed the victory when he crowned his international debut with a volatile shot from 25 meters. But within 60 seconds of North Macedonia coming back with two goals from Arjian Adeyemi and Aleksandr Trajkowski, it took a late winner from Ianis Hagi to score points.

Liechtenstein – Armenia 0-1

• Guests were in possession of the ball the entire time and attacked the hosts’ goal. Hatha eventually paid off for Armenia as he scored a late goal and earned a deserved win against Liechtenstein. Only a combination of an accurate finish and a good goalkeeper prevented a clear win. In the end, a self-goal had to be used to secure the victory.

Group A

El Salvador – Grenada 2: 0

• With goals from both halves, El Salvador scored a home win against a strong Grenada. The maximum points in a straight duel can prove to be decisive for a two-time World Cup final against one of the main competitors in Group A.

Group b

Canada – Bermuda 5-1

• Syle Larin made the World Cup qualifier by scoring a hat-trick in a 5–1 win over Bermuda in Orlando, Canada. The Canadians competed with others, as well as young players Alfonso Davis, and led the break with 2–0, with Richie Laria and Theo Corbynu rising in the second half.

Group c

Curacao – Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 5-0

• Coach Gus Hiddink began the latest chapter of his World Cup journey with a sovereign victory. Juninho Bakuna scored two of the four goals in the first half before Elsan Hui added a fifth in the final leg. Curacao will now face a tough challenge against Cuba in neutral Guatemala City on Sunday.

Panama – Barbados 1: 0

• Panama, who made their 2018 World Cup debut, needed a late goal from substitute Jair Catuy to win against Barbados in neutral Santo Domingo. The next match in the Dominican Republic will take on Dominica on Sunday.

Group e

Haiti – Belize 2: 0

• Although the first half was very diverse, the first goal at Port au Prince came at the start of the second half. Both goals for Haiti were scored by defenders and left from the corners.
