After Ukraine mission: Munich drone company acquires Thiel-Invest

Düsseldorf German-American billionaire Peter Thiel and Berlin-based venture capitalist Project A are investing in drone company Quantum Systems. It’s a deal that promises Munich start-ups access to U.S. military knowledge — and that could spark discussion in the German start-up scene.

Quantum Systems builds military and civilian reconnaissance drones. Former Bundeswehr soldier Florian Seibel founded the company in 2015 and can show what his technology is capable of in the face of a Russian invasion. 20 Quantum drones are currently searching the Russian military and providing Ukrainians with information about their position.

As a founder and investor, Peter Thiel is already familiar with security and defense technologies. It is behind Palantir and Anduril, two of the most modern and most controversial American companies in the sector. The German venture capital scene knows nothing comparable. Instead, Project A should also inspire other investors to tackle a “dual use”: dual purpose.
