LASK have known their potential opponents in the third round of qualifying for the new conference league from Monday. Upper Austrians meet the winners of the second round duel between Lithuania’s FK Panevice and Serbian club FK Vojvodina Novi Sad. Upcoming potential competitors are also known for Austria Wien – provided you clear the first hurdle.

In the event of promotion from the second qualifying round, Austria will face the winner of the pairing between Scotland’s Aberdeen and Sweden’s BK Haken via Icelandic representative Breedablik. It was the result of a European Football Association (UEFA) draw in Nyon on Monday.

The third qualifying round, to which LASK will enter, will be held on 5 and 12 August. According to the UEFA lottery ticket, Linz would play the first leg away before the return game was played in Klagenfurt. Due to the new construction of Linz Stadium, Worthersee Stadium is an alternate venue for athletes during international games. To advance to the group stage, coach Dominic Thalhammer’s team would have to face another hurdle in the play-offs.

Panevezis, from the small town of the same name, is third in the current Lithuanian Championship after 19 rounds of 36, three points behind Master Zalagiri. FK Vojvodina ranked fourth in the table in the previous Serbian league. In the duel with the Balts, the Serbs are on the side. The coach is 40-year-old Slawoljub Jordjevi, who ran for SCR Altach in the spring of 2009.

Austria lives in the north

In the event of promotion, Austria would have to move either to the north of the British Isles or to the south of Scandinavia. Aberdeen finished fourth in the Scottish Championship and 36-year-old warrior Scott Brown is new to the team. The new session is starting from the first week of August. Haken is a club from the Swedish metropolis of Gothenburg, and this season the club is in eighth place. The Viennese will initially play at home in the third qualifying round. The Violets will initially play the Vienna favorites on Thursday, before heading to Iceland for the second leg, against Breedablik.
