OTE Group today announced that it will accelerate the growth of fiber optic networks, moving to double the internet speed that every regular Cosmote customer has.

Thus, the OTE Group today announced that it will upgrade the fixed broadband internet speeds that Cosmot customers are enjoying today, where it is technically possible, completely free of charge. This means that ADSL broadband customers will move to 50 VDSL connections, while anyone with 50 and 100 Mbps connections (FTTH or not) will switch to 100 and 200 Mbps plans respectively without any additional charges.

With this move, OTE seeks to increase the reach of high-speed internet and use the existing capabilities of fixed networks by the majority of the population, with the entire program expected to start in the first quarter of 2022 and be completed within the year. The prerequisite is approval by the National Telecommunications and Posts Commission, which, once completed, will introduce new commercial fixed telephony programs to potential and new customers.

The announcement is part of the group’s strategy to accelerate the growth of fiber optic networks (FTTH) aimed at reaching 3 million homes and businesses, expanding OTE’s investment plan to over 3 billion euros by 2027. Big investment. telecommunications infrastructure in Greece in recent decades, a project that is expected to significantly transform the country’s digital infrastructure in the coming decades and lead it to a “gigabit society”. According to OTE, the total number of lines in the country today is around 4.8 million (home and business), with OTE aiming to cover 3 million i.e. about 2/3 of the country.
