Radon (SID) – Radon – Fougeres, 150,4 km (Flach)
The Tour de France stage is as on day one as sprinters, ahead of the big favorites at the first trials on Wednesday. There are some hills waiting for the Fougeres on the 150.4km-long stage, but there isn’t a single mountain classification – anything other than a massive sprint would be a big surprise.
On the fourth day, the tour of France remains entirely in Brittany before saying goodbye to the wooded region in the north-west of the country. The route heads south of the regional capital Rennes, before turning in two large arcs towards the destination of Fugeres. About 35 km from the end, the intermediate sprint begins the finish.
The starting point of Radon (9000 inhabitants), a prosperous trade center in the Middle Ages due to its location on the Villene River, hosts this tour for the second time since 2011. Ten years earlier, American Tyler Farrar had won the third stage there. André Greipel, still there today, was ninth in the mass sprint.
Fougeres (20,500 residents) is the fifth leg of the tour with its grand palace, but the destination city for the second time since 2015. At that point, Briton Mark Cavendish won ahead of Greipel and Peter Sagan – three veterans looking to resurface after six years.
