Scottish Professional Football League clubs have decided not to cast a formal vote on increasing the number of teams in the first four tiers.
All 42 clubs were asked to share their views on a plan that would include six teams over the next three seasons, including Rangers and Celtic Colt teams, as well as two clubs from the Highland and Lowland leagues.
The move would not result in any relegation from Ligue 2 for the next three seasons, making it four divisions of 12 in the SPFL by 2024/2025.
While some clubs supported the idea, the proposals did not receive the “significant” support required to submit a written proposal.
A spokesperson for SPFL said: “We would like to thank the members of the Innovation Group – Stewart Robertson, Gerry Britton, Steve Brown, Ian McMenemy and George Fraser – for their hard work and commitment in preparing the proposals. Also detailed.
