Goal-Crazy Bodo / Glit Win first Norwegian title

STOCKHOLM: Free-scoring Bodo / Glim claimed their first Norwegian top flight title on Sunday, thanks to goals from Casper Juncker and Philip Zinkarnazel, a 2-1 victory over Stromsgodset, the team’s 84th and 85th strike of the season.

The result gives the club, whose Espimira Stadium is about 1,200 kilometers from the capital Oslo, the Norwegian top flight has a total of 68 points after 25 games, 18 ahead of second-placed Molde with five matches left to play.

Founded 104 years ago, Glitt was a vice-captain in the league in 2019, but in 2020 he was able to move one better forward, scoring two or more goals in each league game. Molden’s 2-2 defeat in mid-October was their only defeat of the season.

“I’m touched,” coach Kajtil Knutsen told Eurosport. “This is a fantastic group of players, a fantastic team and a fantastic club.”

Newton’s side beat AC Milan 3-2 in the third qualifying round of the Europa League, and they have won fans across Norway with their high-tempo, hard-working style, averaging more than three goals per game.

To play five games, the newly crowned champion needed four points to break Mogden’s 2014 points record in the league season, and team captain Ulrich Sanes Lance was left speechless by what his team had achieved.

“I need a little more time before the big quotes arrive,” he told the newspaper Warden’s Gang as he began celebrating the long journey to northern Norway.
