So, you may have heard that there is a new app in California that allows residents to be notified when they come in contact with someone infected with COVID-19 and want to know more about it. Well, you’ve come to the right place.
First of all, the app – dubbed CA Notified – stays alive on Thursday. It was built in partnership with Apple Pal and Google, and it allows users of those smartphones to receive notifications if they are in close proximity to another user of the app who has tested positive. The more people who sign up, the more effective the app is. Other states participating in similar states have had difficulty in making sure most people choose.

For iPhone users, you’re in luck. All it takes is a couple taps in your settings. For Android users, you have to hold your horse until Thursday: at the same time when the app will be available for download from the Google Play Store.
Although the California-specific technology went live later this week, the exposure notifications were already loaded in iOS 13.7 and can be accessed through your iPhone’s settings. Apple Plus users can already sign in to the app by scrolling through “Settings” and tapping on “Exposure Notifications”. From there, select “Turn on exposure notifications”, then “United States” then select “California” as your location and agree to the terms and conditions. A pop-up contact will request to turn on notifications; Tap “Continue”.
That’s it – you’re inside.
Until it comes alive on Thursday, however, only participants in the pilot programs of the College Ledge campus will be able to share their COVID-19 diagnosis.
Starting Thursday, when CA Notify will launch in the Google Play Store, Android users will be able to download the app, open it and turn on exposure notifications.
