Match Report: Liverpool U18s 4-1 Newcastle United

Liverpool U18 beat Newcastle United 4-1 at the academy on Saturday afternoon to record their fourth consecutive league victory.

Max Waltman put the Young Reds ahead with a nicely taken finish until the first half and marked his 18th birthday after Tyler Morton with a similarly structured strike of 29 minutes.

Mort had a third win at the start of the second half and the hosts had a third win and the second day’s performance next to Mark Bridge-Wilkinson was sealed by an excellent hit by Layton Stewart, reassuring the team away from Lucas de Bole’s late efforts.

The famed Stuart had two starting points in Kirkby and closed at the last minute on both occasions, but those prospects set the tone for an open, end-to-end contest.

Indeed, the game was still nine minutes away when Waltman was denied success.

James Balagizi was the architect of the opportunity, showing agility, speed and alertness as he carried the ball through midfield before putting the ball down, but was eventually stopped by a low shot Newcastle goalkeeper.

Surprisingly, visitors quickly made their own starting series and Liverpool Woodwork was said to be at least 13 minutes away.

From a cleared corner, De Bole thwarted a rising effort from 20 yards that cluttered the crossbar and bounced.

Melkamu Freunderf would have given the home team the lead soon after, when Dominic Cornes’ deep ball corner swam between them and he widened the ball, probably only No. 11 would have been caught in surprise.

But Bridge-Wilkinson’s allegations took a big step toward three points during the ensuing eight-minute spell.

The exact and inviting kalash in Lee Jonas ‘left channel was opened by Waltman .The latter was clinically’ guided to the keeper and the inside of the opposite post.

Newcastle’s goal was fired by Ferrero-Waldner near Oliver Marshall when Stuart took possession of the pitch and Waltman tied the ball in front of his team-mate in the box.

But another came soon after.

Jarel Kwansah made it a sweet run with a start to bring the ball out of defense, then allowed Morton to stroke the bottom right corner through a main pass from Balagizi and Waltman.

Liverpool quickly picked up speed as the teams emerged for the second half and were ahead of 0-0 within six minutes of the resumption.

Freunderf claimed the courtesy of neat footwork on the left byline and his full cutback in the six-yard bus into the box was touched by Morton from close range.

When the pair faced off one after the other, the cornice waited a long time for Stewart’s goal and the cornice was not too wide with a curling free-kick from the edge of the area.

As the U18 Premier League North tie entered its final half hour, the Red Queens needed goalline clearance by pulling from Kwansah to save their clean sheet.

Stuart further added his name to the scoresheet as Isaac Mabaya stepped to the right and his pull eventually fell to Liverpool No. 9, producing an excellent, angular drive into the far corner.

Newcastle struck back in the final, although De Bole beat Jakub Ojrinsky four minutes into time, but the points were already in the hosts’ bag.
