Neither a skull nor a dragon, an Italian gets a tattoo… a QR code to access his health pass

Neither a skull nor a dragon, let alone a heart pierced by an arrow: A 22-year-old Italian student has decided to get a QR code tattooed on his arm to prove that he has been vaccinated against Covid.

At the entrance of a restaurant or cinema, it should be enough for Andrea Colonetta, now living in Reggio Calabria in the south of Italy, to roll up his sleeve to show off the tattoo on the back of his left arm.

It’s rather original, I like to be different“, he remarked for the newspaper calabria courier, following her pictures on Instagram and Tiktok made her a little local celebrity.

Think a little more before you act

The less enthusiastic the reaction was, as his parents explained to the young man. “He encouraged me to be less impulsive and to think a little more before acting“, he explained.

But upon closer inspection, the tattooed QR code looks much simpler than the one seen on a European pass. In a video posted to TikTok by his tattoo artist Gabrielle Pelerone, the student is getting ready to walk into a McDonald’s and raise his hand to scan it with his phone.

It is then his smartphone which he hands over to the guard to scan. So not sure if this QR code is actually a great shortcut to buy your Big Mac.
