A family of two adults and four children were destroyed in a trailer fire on Sunday night in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia.
At around 6:30, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received a report of a fire on Mountain Road in Millvale. Upon arrival at the scene, officials discovered the bodies of a 30-year-old man, a 28-year-old woman and four children aged 3, 4, 8 and 11.
The family was originally from Amherst in Nova Scotia, on the New Brunswick border.
Three of the four children attended Cumberland North Academy. “We are saddened by the tragic deaths of three of our students. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and community affected by this tragedy,” the school’s umbrella organization, the Chignecto-Central Regional Center for Education, posted on Twitter.
Psychologists will be deputed in the school to provide psychological support to the students and staff, it was said.
According to the preliminary investigation of the RCMP, the cause of the fire does not seem suspicious at present.
Forensic Identification Services, along with representatives from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s office, investigated the scene of the tragedy overnight. The office of the Fire Marshal will be there during the day on Monday.
The RCMP investigation continues with the assistance of the Northeast Nova Scotia Major Crime Unit.
