QMJHL: A good start for Titan

The Acadie-Bathurst Titan began their playoff run on Thursday with a 7-5 win over the St. John C Dogs at the Casey Irving Regional Center.

The two teams competed in the round robin tournament between three New Brunswick teams.

Riley Kidney led the Titan with four points of production (1 goal and 3 assists). Jacob Melanson and Bennett McArthur each scored two goals for the visitors. MacArthur also received an assist.

For the Sea Dogs, defender Jerry Poirier disassociated himself by hitting the target twice.

Sea Dogs forward Liam Leonard did not attend the meeting as he was suspended by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for violating the league’s COVID-19 protocol.

He is expected to return for the clash against the Moncton Wildcats on Saturday.

The round robin winners will face the Charlottetown Islanders in four of four series. Two teams from Nova Scotia, the Halifax Moshheads and the Cape Breton Eagles, are not making the playoffs this season due to health reasons.
