Charlottetown Islanders defender Lucas Cormier won the mile-Bouchard Trophy, awarded for excellence to a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League defenseman.
Cormier defeated his teammate Noah Laoan in the ballot, as well as Jordan Spence of the Val-d’Or Fours.
Picked by the Vegas Golden Knights last October, Cormier has scored 16 goals this season in addition to adding 38 assists in just 39 games. The New Brunswick skater also maintained a plus-35 during the previous campaign.
Laoan, the winner of the Kevin–Lowe Trophy awarded to the circuit’s best defensive defender, kept a margin of +33, good for fourth place in the league. A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia also scored nearly one point per game, or 38 in 39 games.
Traded to the Forces from the Moncton Wildcats on trade deadline, Spence was a major contributor to the success of the President’s Cup finalist, receiving the trophy last season. The Los Angeles Kings prospect has compiled 40 points from 32 games this season, including 24 points from 19 games with their new club.
The honor is named in honor of former Montreal Canadiens defenseman and Hockey Hall of Fame member Emile “Butch” Bouchard. Between 1941 and 1956, he won four Stanley Cups and was voted into the NHL All-Star teams on four occasions.
