Gears Kai has hopes for the little ones

Former Rangers and Scotland star Alan Houghton believes Steven Gerrard should see great potential in young Kai Kennedy if he is happy the club is dropping the six-point offer for him.

It was reported this week that Jersey had made three bids for Star, who took on loan with Inverness and Wraith Rovers last season and earlier this year signed a new deal through 2023.

West Ham are believed to be one of the main teams interested in Kennedy and have offered £600,000 for his services.

For Ibrox to drop such a package, Hutton believes it shows he will be seen as a first-team player in the not-too-distant future.

Hutton said Glasgow Live: “It’s a big allure for a 19-year-old especially to have him away again.

“He shows you the way of their thoughts. They clearly see him as someone they want to integrate into the first team soon, I thought, if they turn down these offers. “

“I’m really looking forward to seeing him play if I’m being honest. I haven’t seen much, but obviously I’ve heard all the good things about him, I’ve read about him in the press.”

“I haven’t really seen a lot of them, which I really want. Only good things can be heard. Some good loan periods last season, certainly, but it would be nice to see progress now.”

“Whether Steven Gerrard wants to introduce him to the first team now or loan him to a good level of team for future builds.

“Obviously they are looking at something they want to have for Rangers in the future. They want to go that route.

“We’ll see how it goes. It’ll be interesting to see where Rangers stand on this when these teams start their bidding.”
